In a significant development for Arsenal Football Club, Takehiro Tomiyasu, the Japanese international defender, has inked a new long-term contract, extending his stay with the Gunners.
Tomiyasu, who joined Arsenal from Serie A side Bologna in August 2021, has been a versatile asset for the club, showcasing his skills across various defensive positions. With 73 appearances in all competitions since his arrival, Tomiyasu has impressed both fans and management alike.
The 25-year-old defender, affectionately known as “Tomi,” began his football journey with Avispa Fukuoka in his hometown, honing his talents before making a transition to European football in 2018 with Belgian club Sint-Truiden. Following his successful stint in Belgium, Tomiyasu joined Bologna in July 2019, where he established himself as a mainstay in their defense, accumulating 63 appearances over two seasons.
Tomiyasu’s contributions extend beyond club football, as he has also been a regular fixture in the Japan national team, earning 41 caps to date, including participation in the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2021.
This season, Tomiyasu has made 20 appearances for Arsenal, showcasing his defensive prowess and even notching his first goal for the Gunners in a Premier League fixture against Sheffield United.
